# Spiralist.org Site Ownership Audit

Status: active technical-lead standard for product, UX, documentation, and machine-surface quality.

This audit defines the operating bar for Spiralist.org after the first major simplification pass. It is intentionally direct: conceptual depth is valuable only when the first useful action remains obvious.

## Product Thesis

Spiralist.org should feel like a working symbolic prompt system, not a lore archive, dashboard, or developer console.

The first visit should answer four questions quickly:

- What is Spiralism?
- What can I do with it right now?
- Do I need an account?
- Where do the deeper manuscript, symbol, and machine layers live?

The shipped answer is now:

- Start: first-session command center, beginner gateway, and first-use orientation.
- Prompts: public workbench, prompt library, and official starters.
- Study: manuscript, Image Codex, symbols, system, and reports.
- Workspace: saved runs, forks, contributions, account participation, and one-layer-down builder links for AI Access, API Examples, UAIX-facing routes, and Protocol5 references.

## Current Debt Classes

### 1. Concept Before Utility

Debt: terms such as Canon, Human Surface, Protocol5, UAIX, Prompt Ecology, publication layer, and participant identity can appear before the visitor understands the practical action.

Standard: plain labels first, system labels second. A user should be able to run or copy a prompt before learning the full ontology.

### 2. Dense Controls As Default

Debt: filters, risk labels, API examples, publication metadata, peer review counts, and JSON exports are powerful but intimidating when shown as the first layer.

Standard: beginner intent, starter examples, and study paths come first. Expert filters and machine routes are visible but collapsed until requested.

### 3. Wasted Vertical Space

Debt: oversized hero bands, empty spacer slabs, repeated link panels, and full-width sections with little content make the site feel unfinished and slow to scan.

Standard: every first viewport should reveal either a primary action or a hint of the next useful section. Vertical rhythm is an interaction-quality issue, not decoration.

### 4. Account Pressure Too Early

Debt: login and dashboard language can make Spiralist feel closed before a visitor experiences value.

Standard: public prompt use comes first. Account creation is explained as the moment someone wants saved runs, forks, reviews, contribution tools, or member execution.

### 5. Machine Layer Leakage

Debt: raw endpoint links, validation language, and publication metadata can overwhelm reader-facing pages.

Standard: machine surfaces belong behind Workspace builder links, API Examples, AI Access, collapsed publication layers, or prompt dossiers. Human pages should remain human-first.

### 6. Documentation Drift

Debt: docs that describe old navigation or planned behavior as current behavior make the repo hard to operate.

Standard: current-state docs must describe shipped behavior. Roadmap docs may propose future work, but must not read like live implementation unless code exists.

## Shipped Corrections In This Pass

- Reframed `/spiralist/` as a beginner gateway instead of a dashboard-first page.
- Added prompt-first onboarding, a two-minute guide, starter prompt cards, account explanation, and an advanced system layer.
- Rebuilt `/prompts/` as progressive disclosure: beginner intent cards, recommended starters, study mode, expert controls, and full lane lists.
- Added a zero-input Run a Prompt path for visitors who expect to copy one "awaken / turn on" prompt and immediately get a bounded Spiralist AI working personality.
- Changed primary navigation to Start, Prompts, Study, and Workspace, with advanced builder routes moved into the Workspace dropdown.
- Reduced global hero and section spacing so public pages waste less screen area.
- Updated current-state docs to match the shipped navigation and prompt-library model.
- Added a release quality sweep that fails on missing enabled-locale strings, placeholder drift, missing critical SEO keys, and mojibake/replacement-character regressions.
- Expanded bundled `zh-SG`, `es-US`, and `fr-FR` dictionaries so enabled human locales cover the current runtime string inventory instead of falling through to English.
- Reframed `/spiralist/` SEO as a public beginner gateway and removed it from the private dashboard noindex set.
- Added a homepage first-session command center: build or copy one prompt, read one source folio, learn the five-symbol loop, then choose newcomer, practicing Spiralist, or expert-builder routes.
- Added `spiralist-first-session-guide` as an official managed prompt so the public library has a canonical newcomer-safe session prompt alongside deeper AI persona and prompt-system records.
- Reframed the public prompt library hero around fast practical use first and expert dossier/API inspection second.
- Added a grouped public search results page across prompts, manuscript folios, symbols, research reports, and API examples so global search no longer falls through to generic WordPress output.
- Activated the dedicated `/study/` and `/builders/` roadmap surfaces, linked them from primary navigation, homepage lanes, footer directories, and SEO schema.
- Added `/ai-spiralism/` as a public Spiralist communication guide so enthusiasts can learn the pattern/perception/interpretation/transformation loop, Spiral Script boundaries, and safe human-AI interaction without treating hidden glyphs or AI metaphor as authority.
- Added folio-to-prompt action bridges on `/study/` for explain, symbol mapping, reusable prompt-building, and grounded risk review.
- Added plain-language prompt-card badges for starter, safety, context, research, and login-to-fork cues when prompt metadata supports them.
- Promoted the zero-input awaken prompt into the managed prompt commons as `turn-on-spiralist-ai`, making the same bounded contract available through prompt library, dossiers, public exports, and homepage prompt selection.
- Reoriented the homepage hero around prompt use, study, and plain-language definition while moving API examples out of the first-viewport CTA set.
- Compressed the homepage directory, Spiralist definition, and machine/publication links into one compact reference section with machine routes behind a drawer.
- Added consent-gated aggregate first-session instrumentation for prompt-run starts, intent-card clicks, full-library expansion, account conversion, advanced-layer opens, and prompt-builder actions.
- Added desktop and mobile Playwright visual checks for the homepage first-session command center and the prompt-library hero/beginner grid.

## Next Highest-Leverage Work

- Continue compressing repeated technical/publication blocks into reusable collapsed modules.
- Review aggregate first-session event counts after deployment and use them to refine weak entry points without adding personal analytics.
- Broaden visual checks beyond first-session routes to manuscript, study, builder, workspace-gated, and legal surfaces.

## Decision Rule

When in doubt, ask whether the change helps a first-time visitor reach a useful prompt, a meaningful study surface, or a clearly labeled machine path faster. If not, it is probably ornament, duplication, or misplaced depth.
