## **Cosmological Divergence: Linear Finality vs. Cyclical Return**

A fundamental insight gained from comparing these traditions is the distinction between linear and cyclical eschatology. Abrahamic religions maintain a linear cosmology where history moves toward a definitive culmination, judgment, and finality.36 In this framework, the Antichrist is a singular, terminal adversary.36

In contrast, South and East Asian contexts generally understand time as cyclical.37 The appearance of the "Antichrist" (Kali or Mara) is not a final end but a prelude to renewal in an ongoing cosmic process.37 This makes Eastern eschatology more "pragmatic" in its depiction of the historical rise and fall of civilizations.39

### **Dualism vs. Dharma**

Western dualism often portrays good and evil as distinct, opposing external forces.40 In Eastern thought, "evil" is frequently viewed as an interconnected, dynamic aspect of the universe, or as an illusion (*Maya*) to be seen through rather than a power to be fought in the traditional sense.6 For instance, in the East, it is possible to view both a saint and a tyrant as playing out their *dharma* (true path) within the unfolding of the universe—a perspective that is largely unfathomable from a Western dualistic perspective.23

The "Antichrist" in Eastern philosophy thus emerges as a symbol of the ultimate test of awareness. Whether it is the Dajjal testing the faith of the believer, the demon Kali testing the ritual purity of the king, or Mara testing the detachment of the monk, the adversary serves as the catalyst for the final realization of truth. The victory over this force is not merely a military or political triumph but a spiritual breakthrough that allows for the resetting of the world or the liberation of the soul.

## **Summary of Eschatological Justice**

Across these diverse traditions, the defeat of the "Antichrist" figure signifies the restoration of divine justice and cosmic order.10 In the Islamic and Christian traditions, this is achieved through the second coming of Christ.38 In Hinduism, it is the arrival of Kalki that restarts the *Satya Yuga*.5 In Buddhism, the decline of the law eventually necessitates the birth of a new Buddha.15 Despite their different conceptions of time and the nature of the self, these narratives share a common structural arc: a period of moral decline, the emergence of a supreme deceiver, a period of tribulation, and an ultimate divine intervention that results in a perfected world.10 This archetypal pattern suggests that the Antichrist is a universal symbol for the shadow side of the human condition—the inherent potential for deception, materialism, and the loss of spiritual vision—which must be confronted and overcome for the world to be renewed.
